Radiation TherapyRadiation Therapy has been used for the treatment of cancer and several non-cancerous diseases for over 100 years. Radiation Therapy is a rapidly changing and progressive field of medicine. The often-negative connotation of a cancer diagnosis and treatment is no longer the way it was. By using the most modern equipment and computer planning available anywhere in the world, our painless treatment techniques are almost always without significant complications. Radiation-effects differ for each patient, so your physician will discuss treatment techniques, goals and side effects with you. Radiation only affects the areas that are being treated. We have many ways to design the treatment to target only the tumors. This spares the normal tissues. Radiation OncologistA Radiation Oncologist is a doctor, an MD who is a specialist, trained to diagnose, treat, plan and monitor patients with all types of cancer, as well as experts in cancer biology, radiation medicine and physics . You will meet with your Radiation Oncologist on your first visit. Your Oncologist will explain to you the disease, your prognosis, your treatment plan and answer any other question you and your family may have. We will work in conjunction with other specialists and your primary care physician to give you the best treatment possible. Your Oncologist is your link to a successful treatment plan that will best serve your individual needs.
